They Are Legend

BJORK

Jimi Hendrix Star Spangled Banner

I keep seeing commercials for some crap movie about Woodstock.I know its a significant event in music and in counter culture et. al. but fuck do i hate hippies.I saw the film Woodstock twice as a teenager and it is a great film. Not that i want to re- watch it but It reminded me of Jimi Hendrix playing the Star Spangled Banner and how powerful this footage is.It speaks volumes without uttering a word.

Music Videos of Relevance

A few years ago i was really falling out of love with metal.Everything just seemed to cheesy.Fucking bands started "limp bizkiting out" and younger bands were mixing crunk and rap with death metal.Feeling my age it left me confused, angry, and scared.Underground hip hop and electronic and house were all i seemed to be listening to.One afternoon some cable channel was playing metal videos so i watched a few and was so disgusted. It all went similar to this....

That is FUCKING HORRIBLE!!!!Seriously.I was reaching for the remote when the video below started to play.It saved metal for me that day.It also opened me into exploring and finding bands such as Neurosis,Isis,Sunn o))),Earth,Buried at Sea,etc.

Metal hadn't become a bunch of wuss emo crabcore crap.Sure the popular metal was fucked but metal, True metal (like true hip-hop) had gone back underground.Thank you Celtic Frost. In high school i was never really into you(i was already into Venom,Slayer, etc.)but you saved metal for me.

Papercraft Play Me Off Cat

So cute My eyes burn.

FOUND HERE AT TUBBYPAWS

nananananana-BATMAN!

So i just got back to work after cruising to toysrus to get the new batman game.they have a pretty sweet deal today. You sign up for their rewards program (its free) and you get a $30 gift card when purchasing the game.I got there a little early and there were a bunch of scalpers there waiting to pillage the action figures.I heard them talking about which chase figures they were hoping to score. So me being me, as soon as the doors opened i beat them to the action figure line and i would have grabbed all their pulls but stock was low.

My work production is shite cause all i can think about is playing this tonight.

Epic Scenes

"You know what's an epic scene? When Joe Pesci is all "how am i funny?" in Goodfellas. Or how about Deniro doing the "you talking to me"thing?"

Well i could go that route but i want to try to stay a little more obscure.

from wikepedia;
"Battle Royale takes place in an alternate timeline—Japan is a national socialist state, known as the Republic of Greater East Asia.Under the guise of a "study trip," a group of students from Shiroiwa Junior High Schoolare sleep-gassed on a bus. They awaken in an isolated, evacuated island. They learn that they have been placed in an event called The Program. Officially a military research project, The Program is a means of terrorizing the population, of creating such paranoia as to make organized insurgency impossible. According to the rules, every year since 1947, fifty 3rd year junior high school (14-15 years old) classes are isolated, and each class is required to fight to the death until one student remains. Their movements are restricted by metal collars, later identified as Model Guadalcanal No. 22, around their necks which contain tracking and listening devices; if any student should attempt to escape The Program, or enter declared "danger zones", a bomb will be detonated in the collar, killing the wearer. If no student dies in any 24 hour period, all collars will be detonated simultaneously.

After being briefed about The Program, the students are issued survival packs which include a map, compass, flashlight, food and water, and a random weapon or other item, which may be anything from a gun to a paper fan. "

To say this film is intense is like saying Niagra Falls is wet.About half way thru the film one of the main male characters is injured and saved by a group of females who are best friends and have set up home in a lighthouse. They refuse to fight and are waiting the contest out.One of the girls who was shunned by boys at the school doesn't trust the injured boy so she poisons his food.An accident switches the food and a girl dies. What chills me about this scene is how fast friendship and love dissolve and fear, mistrust and violence happen in an instant.

I also recommend the book which is 3x more detail oriented and able to flesh every character out better and the graphic novels are fun although they didn't appeal to me like the film and book.

Music Videos of Relevance

Music videos for the most part are shite IMHO.There are a few though, that (too me) are pure art as well and neither diminish nor obscure the music. They achieve just the right note, complimenting the music in a way that fuses them together, thus making a classic video.I would like to start spotlighting videos i think are of relevance.

The Pharcyde - Passing Me By - director Spike Jonze

Artist Spotlight - Junko Mizuno

I've never seen such evil art look so goddamned cute! Her art has crossed over to include a toy line, skewered books based on fairlytales, fashion, and people even cosplay her art.

Epic Scenes

In a movie filled with epic scenes the Harmony Korine film Gummo has one scene in particular that blows me away. The two "heroes" of the film are riding their bikes thru Xenia, Ohio. They have their BB guns in tow in case they run into cats, which they sell to the local market(for god knows what) or simply to torture. The epic stoner band Sleep's song Dragonaut plays.

Artist Spotlight - Glen 'albino raven' Brogan

Photobucket

Glen 'albino raven' Brogan's retro-pin-up, really honestly probably the last featured submission for Phillie's Autumn Society 8-bit & Beyond show, which -- last warning! -- opens tonight at Brave New Worlds' 45 N 2nd St. location, from 6-10pm.

I may have to get this shit inked on me.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.

It's a
Bullshit three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless fucking hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any fucking time. Any fucking day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Some say a comet will fall from the sky.
Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves.
Followed by faultlines that cannot sit still.
Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits.

Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will cuz
I sure could use a vacation from this

Silly shit, stupid shit...

One great big festering neon distraction,
I've a suggestion to keep you all occupied.

Learn to swim.

Mom's gonna fix it all soon.
Mom's comin' round to put it back the way it ought to be.

Learn to swim.

Fuck L Ron Hubbard and
Fuck all his clones.
Fuck all those gun-toting
Hip gangster wannabes.

Learn to swim.

Fuck retro anything.
Fuck your tattoos.
Fuck all you junkies and
Fuck your short memory.

Learn to swim.

Fuck smiley glad-hands
With hidden agendas.
Fuck these dysfunctional,
Insecure actresses.

Learn to swim.

Cuz I'm praying for rain
And I'm praying for tidal waves
I wanna see the ground give way.
I wanna watch it all go down.
Mom please flush it all away.
I wanna watch it go right in and down.
I wanna watch it go right in.
Watch you flush it all away.

Time to bring it down again.
Don't just call me pessimist.
Try and read between the lines.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't
Welcome any change, my friend.

I wanna see it all come down.
suck it down.
flush it down.

To me the very definition of cool.I once heard someone say of him"he makes Armani suits look good".

Whats cool is my dad took me to see the Killer and Hard Boiled at a midnight show many years ago.Now my son (almost 5 years old)started playing Stranglehold on the ps3.Its essentially Hard Boiled part 2 in video game form with you playing the tequila character. We watched Hard Boiled a few weeks ago and it was cool bonding over such a fun movie.

Shame and Pride part 2

So this turned into a monster.I was going to pick 5 bands on my ipod that i should be ashamed i own and that would be it.My list was near 30 when i knew i had to re-evaluate my parameters.Right away i knew i had to pick music that the general public would view as lame but also be unexpected that i would listen to it.

Example-i am a 39 year old married father of one.I am tattooed pretty heavily. My heads shaved.Ive been told i look intimidating.I love George Micheal's music.

I had to eliminate music i had for cheese value.Turbonegro,Journey,my Star Wars xmas album, hair metal...

I also didn't include experimental stuff because I'm not ashamed that I'm a particular bands only fan.see-Sunn o))), Earth, anything involving Mike Patton.

So i got a nice list of about 20 that are bands i love and i guess saying ashamed isn't the right word...put it this way.If a friend walked in while i was rocking to any of these bands it would be akin to a friend walking in on me masturbating. Here we go-

Since George is already out of the bag, lets start there. In the late 80's early 90's i was a headbanger. Not only was i METAL!I was angry METAL!Long hair, bullet belts, inverted crosses, spikes?Yep. Every Wham album?Yep.Damn he has a voice.(Let me add- after the performance he and Queen put on at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert, its a travesty he didn't join Queen and put out new albums.)I can only imagine the shit i would've endured had my Wham secret had got out.I would have had to change schools.

Not bad enough? How about Paris Hilton?I really only like the "Stars are Blind" song but i REALLY like that song! Her whole album should have followed the laid back white girl does reggae vibe of "Stars..".Her cover of "Do Ya Think Im Sexy' ain't bad but Revolting Cocks did a better version.

(Got a funny caption for this photo? Please put it in the comment section.Best one i came up with?"when at the beach, its recommended you keep your keys, wallet, suntan lotion, blackberry, iphone, ipod, makeup, and i.d's on your person at all times")

to be continued....
